Zimlancers functions as a secure digital marketplace that connects Zimbabwean-based talent (freelancers) with clients who need professional services. The process is streamlined into four main phases:
Phase 1: Registration and Vetting (Building Trust)
For Freelancers:
- Create Profile: As a freelancer, sign up and create a detailed profile, including your professional history, education, skills, and portfolio of past work.
- Specialization: Define your service offering (e.g., "Web Development," "Bookkeeping," "Content Writing").
- Get Hire: Once you profile is set, you stand a chance to get hired by local or international firms looking for top quality talent.
For Clients:
- Client Account Setup: As a client / company, register and verify your business or personal information.
- Hire a freelancer: Hire a freelancer based on the skills you are looking for and the agreed cost / timelines.
Phase 2: Project Posting and Bidding (Matching)
1. Client Posts a Job:
The client posts a detailed job description, including:
- Project Scope and Deliverables
- Required Skills
- Deadline
- Budget (either fixed-price or hourly rate)
2. Freelancer Submits a Proposal:
Freelancers whose skills match the job description submit a bid (proposal). This includes:
- A custom cover letter explaining why they are the right fit.
- Their proposed total price or hourly rate.
- A suggested timeline for completion.
3. Selection and Negotiation:
The client reviews proposals, freelancer portfolios, and ratings. They may interview the top candidates via the platform's messaging system before selecting the best fit.
Phase 3: Work and Security (Escrow and Delivery)
1. Secure Funding (Escrow):
Once the freelancer is hired, the client deposits the full agreed-upon amount (for fixed-price jobs) into Zimlancers' secure Escrow system. This is critical for trust, especially in a local economy:
- Security for the Freelancer: The freelancer knows the money is secured and ready before they start work.
- Security for the Client: The client knows the funds will only be released once the work is approved.
2. Collaboration and Milestones:
The freelancer begins work, communicating and submitting drafts directly through the Zimlancers platform. For larger projects, the client may approve payment for specific milestones.
3. Delivery and Approval:
Upon final submission, the client reviews the work. Once satisfied, the client officially clicks to approve the payment.
Phase 4: Payment and Review (Completion)
1. Payment Release:
Once the client approves the work, Zimlancers releases the funds from Escrow.
2. Localized Payouts:
A key feature for Zimlancers is its focus on local and reliable payment options. The freelancer receives payment directly to their specified local bank account, mobile money account, or other reliable payment channels available in Zimbabwe, bypassing some of the transfer difficulties of international platforms.
3. Platform Fees:
Zimlancers deducts a service fee (commission) from the freelancer’s earnings to cover the costs of platform maintenance, payment security, and support.
4. Feedback and Rating:
Both the client and the freelancer rate each other and leave feedback. This builds the freelancer’s reputation on Zimlancers and helps future clients make hiring decisions.
